How Long Does a Roof Replacement Take?
The honest answer for most KC Northland homes is one day. Here is what the day actually looks like and what factors can extend the timeline.
1 Day
Most residential roofs
2 Days
Larger or complex structures
3–5 Sweeps
Magnetic nail cleanup before we leave
What happens on a typical installation day.
7:00 AM
Materials delivered or already staged.
Shingles, underlayment, flashing, and all components arrive on site. The crew confirms staging location and protects driveway areas from material weight.
8:00 AM
Tearoff begins.
Old shingles are removed slope by slope. This is the loudest part of the day. Debris falls to tarps or directly into a dump trailer staged in the driveway or street.
Mid-morning
Deck inspection.
Once tearoff is complete we inspect the decking for rot, soft spots, and any structural concerns. Deck repairs if needed are addressed before any new material goes down.
Late morning
Underlayment and flashing.
Ice and water shield at eaves and valleys. Felt or synthetic underlayment across the full deck. New drip edge. Step and counter flashing at all roof penetrations.
Midday
Shingles begin.
Installation works from the bottom of each slope upward. Ridge cap is the final component installed at the top of every peak.
Afternoon
Final details and cleanup.
All cut lines are sealed. Pipe boots and vent collars are replaced or resealed. Gutters are checked and cleaned of debris.
Before leaving
Magnetic nail sweeps.
We run magnetic sweeps three to five times across every inch of the property: driveway, lawn, planting beds, walkways. Nails left behind are not acceptable. We do not leave until this is done.

Final walkthrough with you.
We walk the exterior with you, confirm everything is complete, and answer any questions. Your warranty documentation is provided at this point.
What makes a roof take two days.
Roof size is the most common factor. A home with more than 35 to 40 squares of roof area may require two days for thorough installation. Steep pitch adds time because crew movement is slower and safety requirements change. Complex rooflines with multiple valleys, dormers, and penetrations add scope. We tell you the expected timeline before scheduling so you can plan accordingly.
One day is a long day of work. We finish what we start before the crew leaves.
